It’s been almost six years since Game of Thrones first premiered on HBO, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the final season to see who will sit on the Iron Throne. With only six episodes in the final season, the Battle of Winterfell was one of the most anticipated moments of the series. S8E3, which aired on April 28, 2019, saw the biggest battle in TV history, and fans couldn’t help but react to the epic fight scene with hilarious memes.
The Night King’s Death: Memes Galore
The biggest moment of the Battle of Winterfell came when Arya Stark killed the Night King, putting an end to the White Walkers’ threat. Fans were quick to create memes about the moment, with some showing Arya as a superhero and others making fun of Bran Stark’s plan to lure the Night King to the Godswood.
One meme showed Arya holding a lightsaber, with the caption “Arya Stark, Jedi Knight.” Another one had Bran Stark saying “I lured him here,” and the Night King responding “You did good, kid,” with a thumbs-up. Fans also joked about how the Night King’s death made the other White Walkers fall like dominoes, with some comparing it to a game of Jenga.
Jon Snow’s Useless Screaming
Another moment that fans couldn’t help but make fun of was Jon Snow’s useless screaming at the undead dragon. Fans created memes about Jon’s futile attempt to stop the dragon, with some comparing it to yelling at a printer or a vending machine that won’t give you your snack.
One meme showed Jon with a microphone, with the caption “Testing, testing, one, two, three,” while another had him screaming “Dracarys” like Daenerys Targaryen, only to have the dragon ignore him. Fans also joked about how Jon’s screaming was probably what woke up all the dead in the crypts, leading to a bloodbath.
Fans React to the Deaths of Their Favorite Characters
The Battle of Winterfell saw the deaths of several beloved characters, including Jorah Mormont, Theon Greyjoy, and Lyanna Mormont. Fans were devastated by the deaths and took to social media to express their emotions through memes.
One meme showed Jorah and Lyanna entering the afterlife, with the caption “The North remembers,” while another had Theon saying “I’m sorry” to Bran, who responded “The things we do for love.” Fans also joked about how Lyanna Mormont’s death was the only one that made them cry, while others created memes about how they were rooting for the Night King to win because they were so heartbroken by the deaths.
