What is the Diamonds Meme?
The diamonds meme is a reference to the popular video game Minecraft. In Minecraft, players can mine for resources, including diamonds, which are one of the rarest and most valuable items in the game. The meme usually takes the form of a screenshot from the game with text overlayed on top, usually with a humorous or relatable message.
One popular iteration of the meme features a screenshot of a player holding a diamond, with the text “When you finally find diamonds after hours of mining”. Another popular version shows a player with a diamond pickaxe, with the caption “When you finally make a diamond pickaxe and feel like a boss”. The humor in these memes comes from the fact that diamonds are so rare in the game, and players often spend hours searching for them.
How Did the Diamonds Meme Start?
The origins of the diamonds meme are a bit unclear, but it seems to have started on the Minecraft subreddit. Users would post screenshots of their diamond finds and add humorous captions. The meme quickly spread to other online communities, and soon enough, it became a viral sensation.
The popularity of the diamonds meme can also be attributed to the fact that Minecraft is one of the most popular video games in the world. According to the game’s developer, Mojang Studios, Minecraft has sold over 200 million copies and has over 126 million monthly active players. With such a large player base, it’s no wonder that memes related to the game have become so popular.
The Diamonds Meme Goes Mainstream
As the diamonds meme continued to grow in popularity, it eventually made its way into mainstream culture. In 2019, popular YouTuber PewDiePie featured the meme in one of his videos, which helped to introduce it to an even wider audience.
Since then, the diamonds meme has been referenced in various TV shows, movies, and even other video games. In the popular game Among Us, for example, players can find a diamond-shaped vent that has become known as the “diamonds meme vent”.
What Do People Think About the Diamonds Meme?
The diamonds meme has received mixed reactions from Minecraft players and internet users in general. Some people find the memes funny and relatable, while others think they are overdone and repetitive.
