Origins of the Ohio Meme
The Ohio meme first gained popularity in the early 2010s, with its origins traced back to a Reddit thread. The thread featured a map of the United States, with Ohio shaded in a slightly darker color than the surrounding states. The caption read, “The color of Ohio on this map is the same color as the background. Coincidence? I think not.” This simple post sparked a wave of creativity and humor, as users began to create their own Ohio memes.
One of the most popular Ohio memes featured a picture of a football player with the caption, “Ohio State just won the national championship.” The punchline, of course, was that Ohio State had not actually won the championship, but the meme was funny nonetheless. Other variations included Ohio as a “black hole” that sucked in all nearby states, or as a “void” that was devoid of any significant landmarks or attractions.
Types of Ohio Memes
Over time, the Ohio meme has evolved and taken on many different forms. Some of the most popular types of Ohio memes include:
The “Ohio is Boring” Meme
One of the most common themes in Ohio memes is that the state is boring or uninteresting. This type of meme often features a picture of Ohio with the caption, “Come for the excitement, stay because you got lost.” While this may seem like a dig at Ohio, it’s really just a way for people to poke fun at the state’s perceived lack of excitement.
The “Ohio is the Center of the Universe” Meme
Another popular theme in Ohio memes is the idea that Ohio is the center of the universe. This type of meme often features a picture of Ohio with various arrows pointing to it, with captions like “All roads lead to Ohio.” While this may seem like an arrogant claim, it’s really just a way for people to express their love for the state.
The “Ohio State Football” Meme
Ohio State football is a huge part of the state’s culture, and it’s no surprise that it has become a popular subject for memes. These memes often feature a picture of Ohio State football players with captions like “Ohio State: Where championships are born.” While these memes may be a bit over-the-top, they’re a fun way for fans to show their support for the team.
