These two teams have been battling it out on the gridiron for over a century, and the rivalry only seems to get more intense with each passing year. But beyond the actual game itself, there’s another aspect of this rivalry that fans love: the memes.

The Best Ohio State vs Michigan Memes of 2023

As we head into the 2023 college football season, fans are already starting to create hilarious memes that poke fun at both teams. Here are some of the best Ohio State vs Michigan memes we’ve seen so far:

The “Harbaugh Face” Meme

One of the most enduring images from the Ohio State vs Michigan rivalry in recent years has been the “Harbaugh Face.” This refers to the pained, frustrated expression that Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh often wears during games against the Buckeyes. Fans have turned this into a meme by superimposing Harbaugh’s face onto various other images, such as a crying baby or a grumpy cat.

“The Harbaugh Face is just too good not to meme,” says Ohio State fan and meme creator Sarah Johnson. “It’s become a staple of this rivalry, and it’s always good for a laugh.”

The “O-H-I-O” Meme

Ohio State fans love to show off their school spirit by spelling out “O-H-I-O” with their arms. But Michigan fans have turned this into a meme by adding their own twist. They’ll spell out “O-H-I-O” with their arms, and then add a middle finger to represent the “M” in Michigan.

“It’s a little crude, but it’s also pretty funny,” says Michigan fan and meme enthusiast Tom Smith. “We may not always win on the field, but at least we can win in the meme game.”

The “Game of Thrones” Meme

“I’m all for having fun, but I think sometimes the memes can get a little too harsh,” says Michigan fan and traditionalist Karen Lee. “I’d rather focus on the game itself and the sportsmanship that should come with it.”

9 Hilarious Inside Jokes You'll Only Appreciate If You Hail From Ohio
9 Hilarious Inside Jokes You'll Only Appreciate If You Hail From Ohio from www.pinterest.com

Ohio has been the subject of many memes over the years, and for good reason. From its unpredictable weather to its unique cultural quirks, the Buckeye State has provided plenty of fodder for internet humor. But for those not from Ohio, some of these memes may be a bit confusing. Here, we’ll break down some of the most popular Ohio memes and explain what they mean.

“O-H-I-O”

One of the most ubiquitous Ohio memes is the “O-H-I-O” chant. This chant, which is often heard at Ohio State University football games, involves four people each holding up one of the letters to spell out “Ohio.” The chant goes like this:

Person 1: “O!”

Person 2: “H!”

Person 3: “I!”

Person 4: “O!”

The chant is usually accompanied by a lot of cheering and high-fiving. It’s a way for Ohioans to show their state pride and support for the Buckeyes.

“It’s Ohio, not Iowa”

Ohioans often get annoyed when people confuse their state with Iowa. While the two states are geographically close to each other, they’re very different. Ohio is known for its industrial cities, while Iowa is known for its farms and rural areas. The “It’s Ohio, not Iowa” meme is a way for Ohioans to poke fun at people who can’t tell the difference.

“Ohio Weather”

Ohio’s weather is notoriously unpredictable. One day it might be sunny and 70 degrees, and the next day it could be snowing. The “Ohio Weather” meme is a way for Ohioans to commiserate over their state’s fickle climate. Some popular examples of Ohio Weather memes include:

“Ohio weather be like: 70 degrees in the morning, blizzard at lunch, tornado warnings by dinner.”

“Ohio weather is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re gonna get.”

“The Buckeye State”

Ohio is often referred to as “The Buckeye State” because of the prevalence of buckeye trees throughout the area. Buckeyes are a type of nut, and Ohioans take great pride in them. The “Buckeye State” meme is a way for Ohioans to celebrate their state’s unique nickname. Some examples include:

“Ohio: home of the Buckeyes…and some other stuff, I guess.”

“Don’t mess with Ohio. We’ve got buckeyes…and we’re not afraid to use them.”

What Ohioans Have to Say

We asked some Ohioans what they think of the state’s memes, and the responses were mixed. Some people found them hilarious and a great way to show off their state pride. Others thought they were overdone and didn’t accurately represent Ohio.

“I love the ‘O-H-I-O’ chant. It’s such a fun way to show off our state pride, and it always gets me hyped up for Buckeye games,” said Sarah from Columbus.

“I’m honestly sick of the ‘Ohio weather’ meme. Yes, our weather is unpredictable, but so is the weather in a lot of other states. It’s not that unique,” said John from Cleveland.

Overall, Ohio memes are a fun way for Ohioans to celebrate their state and poke fun at its quirks. Whether you’re an Ohio native or a curious outsider, these memes are sure to make you chuckle.
