It’s been three years since the infamous incident where Mexican actor Eduardo Yañez slapped a reporter on the red carpet. However, the memes created from that moment continue to circulate on social media to this day. In this article, we’ll explore the history behind the memes, their impact, and what people think about them.

The Incident

In 2020, Eduardo Yañez attended the premiere of the telenovela “Falsa Identidad” in Los Angeles. During a red carpet interview, reporter Paco Fuentes asked Yañez about his son’s recent financial troubles. The actor became visibly upset and proceeded to slap Fuentes in the face, causing a commotion.

Video of the incident quickly went viral, with many condemning Yañez’s actions. The actor later apologized, stating that he had overreacted due to personal issues. Nonetheless, the incident had already sparked a frenzy online.

The Birth of the Memes

It wasn’t long before the internet turned the incident into a meme. One of the earliest examples was a video posted on Twitter by user @alexvivian_ that showed Yañez slapping various objects, including a slice of pizza and a bottle of hot sauce. The video quickly gained traction, with thousands of retweets and likes.

Other memes soon followed. One popular format involved showing a picture of someone with a caption implying that they had said something offensive, followed by a picture of Yañez slapping them. Another meme involved editing Yañez’s face onto various movie scenes where characters were getting slapped.

The Impact of the Memes

The memes quickly spread beyond the Spanish-speaking world and became a global sensation. They were shared on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and even made their way onto mainstream news outlets.

The memes also sparked a debate about the ethics of using real-life incidents for humorous purposes. Some argued that the memes were disrespectful to the reporter who had been assaulted, while others saw them as harmless fun.
