It’s that time of year again, when families gather together to celebrate the holiday season. And for many of us, that means revisiting some of our favorite Christmas movies. One film that has become a holiday classic is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, starring Chevy Chase as the hapless Clark Griswold. But what you may not know is that this movie has also spawned a popular internet meme that has taken on a life of its own. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the Griswold Xmas meme and explore why it has become so beloved by fans of the movie.

What is the Griswold Xmas Meme?

Simply put, the Griswold Xmas meme is a collection of images and videos that reference scenes from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. The most popular of these features a still image of Clark Griswold (played by Chevy Chase) looking befuddled and frustrated, with the caption “When your Christmas plans fall apart.” Other variations include images of Cousin Eddie (played by Randy Quaid) in his infamous white leisure suit, or a GIF of Clark getting hit in the face with a piece of frozen turkey.

The Griswold Xmas meme has become so ubiquitous that it’s hard to browse social media during the holiday season without coming across it. Fans of the movie love to share these images and videos with each other, and it’s not uncommon to see entire threads on Reddit or Twitter devoted to nothing but Griswold Xmas memes.

Why Has the Griswold Xmas Meme Become So Popular?

At its core, the Griswold Xmas meme is a celebration of the absurdity and chaos of the holiday season. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a movie that captures the stress and frustration that can come with trying to create the perfect family Christmas, and the Griswold Xmas meme takes that theme to its logical extreme. By poking fun at the mishaps and misadventures that can happen during the holidays, the meme helps us all to laugh at ourselves and our own imperfections.

But the Griswold Xmas meme is also popular because it taps into our nostalgia for the movie itself. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation was released in 1989, and for many people, it has become an essential part of their holiday traditions. By creating a meme that references specific scenes and characters from the movie, fans are able to connect with each other over their shared love of the film.

What Do Fans of the Movie Think of the Griswold Xmas Meme?

For the most part, fans of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation seem to love the Griswold Xmas meme. On social media, you’ll find plenty of comments from people who say that the meme is a highlight of the holiday season for them. Many fans also enjoy creating their own Griswold Xmas memes, using stills and GIFs from the movie to make their own jokes and observations about the holidays.

There are, of course, some who feel that the Griswold Xmas meme has become overused or clichéd. These critics argue that the meme has lost its originality and that it’s time to move on to something new. However, these voices are in the minority, and most fans of the movie seem to be perfectly happy to keep sharing and enjoying Griswold Xmas memes for years to come.

The Future of the Griswold Xmas Meme

So what does the future hold for the Griswold Xmas meme? It’s hard to say for sure, but it seems likely that it will continue to be a beloved part of holiday internet culture for years to come. As long as people continue to love National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, there will always be a place for the Griswold Xmas meme in our hearts and on our social media feeds.

And who knows? Maybe in a few years, a new generation of fans will discover the movie and create their own memes and tributes to the Griswold family. After all, the holiday season is all about traditions, and what could be more traditional than a good old-fashioned internet meme?
