In 2019, the world was captivated by the epic conclusion of the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones. While opinions on the final season varied greatly, one thing everyone could agree on was the rise of Game of Thrones memes. From “Dracarys” to “Hold the Door,” the show spawned countless viral moments that have since become a part of internet culture. However, one meme in particular has stood out above the rest: Bran the Broken.

Who is Bran the Broken?

Bran Stark, played by actor Isaac Hempstead Wright, is a character who undergoes a dramatic transformation throughout the course of the show. Initially, he is a young boy who is pushed out of a tower and paralyzed from the waist down. However, he discovers he has the ability to warg into animals and gain supernatural powers. He eventually becomes the Three-Eyed Raven, a mystical figure who can see into the past, present, and future.

At the end of the series, Bran is chosen to be the new king of the Seven Kingdoms, despite never expressing any interest in ruling. His stoic demeanor and enigmatic personality have made him a popular subject for memes and jokes.

The Origins of the Bran Meme

The Bran meme began to gain traction during the final season of the show, when it became clear that he was being set up for a major role in the finale. Fans began to speculate about what his ultimate fate would be, and many were surprised when he was named the new king. Some viewers were disappointed by this turn of events, and the Bran meme was born out of a mixture of confusion and amusement.

The original Bran meme featured a screenshot of the character with the caption “Nobody:,” followed by a blank space. This format was used to express a wide range of thoughts and emotions, from the mundane to the absurd.

The Evolution of the Bran Meme

As the Bran meme grew in popularity, it began to take on a life of its own. People began to create their own versions of the meme, often using different images of the character or tweaking the format slightly. Some of the most popular variations included:

The “Everything is Fine” Bran

This meme featured a screenshot of Bran with the caption “Me watching the world burn,” followed by a second image of him looking unbothered with the caption “Me realizing I’m a tree.”

The “I’m the Three-Eyed Raven” Bran

This meme poked fun at Bran’s repeated insistence that he was the Three-Eyed Raven, even when it didn’t seem relevant. It often featured a screenshot of the character with the caption “Bran: I’m the Three-Eyed Raven,” followed by a second image of someone responding with confusion or indifference.

The “Bran the Broken” Bran

This meme played off the character’s official title as “Bran the Broken,” which many viewers found amusing. It often featured a screenshot of the character with the caption “Bran: I’m Bran the Broken,” followed by a second image of someone responding with disbelief or mockery.

The Impact of the Bran Meme

The Bran meme has had a significant impact on internet culture, both within and outside of the Game of Thrones fandom. It has become a shorthand for expressing confusion, detachment, or ironic detachment. It has also been used to comment on a wide range of topics, from politics to pop culture.

Some fans of the show have expressed frustration with the Bran meme, arguing that it oversimplifies and undermines the character’s arc. They argue that Bran is a complex and nuanced character who deserves more respect than being reduced to a punchline.

However, others see the meme as a harmless and fun way to engage with the show and its fans. They argue that the Bran meme is a testament to the enduring popularity of Game of Thrones and its ability to inspire creativity and humor.

The Future of the Bran Meme

As with all internet memes, it is difficult to predict what the future holds for the Bran meme. Some believe that it will continue to be a popular subject of jokes and parodies for years to come, while others think it will eventually fade away.

Regardless of its ultimate fate, the Bran meme has left an indelible mark on internet culture and the legacy of Game of Thrones. Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no denying that Bran the Broken has become a cultural icon in his own right.
