If you haven’t heard of Squid Game, you’re missing out on one of the most talked-about shows of the year. This Korean drama, available on Netflix, has taken the world by storm with its brutal depiction of a deadly game that pits people against each other. And one of the most popular aspects of the show is the “doll meme” that has taken over social media. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what the doll meme is, why it’s so popular, and what it says about our society.
What is the Doll Meme?
The doll meme is a reference to a scene in Squid Game where players are given the task of carving out a shape from a piece of honeycomb candy. The catch is that if they break the shape, they are eliminated from the game. One of the players, a character named Seong Gi-hun, decides to use a strategy he learned from his daughter: he licks the candy until it becomes pliable and then shapes it into the desired form. The result is a doll-like shape that has become a popular meme on social media.
The doll meme has taken on a life of its own, with people using it to express a wide range of emotions. Some use it to express frustration with a difficult task, while others use it to show off their creativity. It has even been used to make political statements, with some people using the doll meme to criticize government policies or politicians.
Why is the Doll Meme so Popular?
There are several reasons why the doll meme has become so popular. For one thing, it’s a clever reference to a memorable scene in a popular show. It’s also a versatile meme that can be used in a variety of contexts. But perhaps the biggest reason for its popularity is that it taps into a deep-seated human desire: the desire to win.
In Squid Game, the players are all desperate for money and are willing to do whatever it takes to win. The doll meme represents a small victory in a game where the stakes are life and death. By creating a doll that looks like the shape they were supposed to carve, the players are able to stay in the game and continue their quest for the prize money. The doll meme is a symbol of determination and resourcefulness, two qualities that are highly valued in our society.
What Does the Doll Meme Say About Us?
The popularity of the doll meme says a lot about our society and the values we hold dear. It shows that we admire people who are resourceful, who can think outside the box and come up with creative solutions to problems. It also shows that we value perseverance and determination, and that we believe that hard work and ingenuity should be rewarded.
But the doll meme also reveals some darker aspects of our society. It shows that we are obsessed with winning, and that we are willing to do whatever it takes to come out on top. It also reveals a certain cynicism about the world we live in, a belief that the game is rigged and that the only way to succeed is to cheat the system.
