It’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years since the banana slicer meme took the internet by storm. For those who don’t remember, the meme featured a simple plastic banana slicer that was mocked for being an unnecessary and ridiculous kitchen gadget. The meme quickly went viral and spawned countless jokes and parodies, but what happened to the banana slicer meme in the years that followed?

The Origins of the Banana Slicer Meme

The banana slicer meme first appeared on social media in 2013 and quickly gained traction. The meme featured a product listing for a plastic banana slicer on Amazon, complete with tongue-in-cheek reviews that praised the gadget for its ability to slice bananas “like a dream.” The absurdity of the product and the reviews made the meme an instant hit.

People began creating their own memes based on the banana slicer, often using the product image with humorous captions. Some of the most popular memes featured the banana slicer being used to slice everything from pizza to human fingers. The meme even made its way into mainstream media, with talk show hosts and news outlets covering the phenomenon.

The Aftermath of the Banana Slicer Meme

While the banana slicer meme was undeniably popular, it wasn’t without its critics. Some argued that the meme was mean-spirited and mocked people who might find the gadget useful. Others pointed out that the product was actually a real item and that the meme could hurt sales and harm the livelihoods of those who made and sold the banana slicer.

Despite the backlash, the banana slicer meme continued to thrive for several years. But eventually, as with all memes, its popularity began to wane. People moved on to new jokes and trends, and the banana slicer faded into obscurity.
