In 1993, Disney released the cult classic Halloween film Hocus Pocus. While the movie wasn’t exactly a box office hit at the time, it has since gained a massive following, becoming a staple of Halloween movie marathons. One of the most iconic parts of the film is the “I Put a Spell on You” musical number performed by the three witch sisters, Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson. In recent years, a particular moment from that scene has become a viral meme sensation.

What is the Sisters Meme?
The Sisters Meme, also known as the “Sisters Looking at a Blank Book” meme, features a screenshot from the Hocus Pocus scene where the three witches are singing and dancing on stage. In the shot, the sisters are looking down at a blank book, trying to find the location of the protagonist, Max. The image has been used in various ways, with people adding captions to the blank book to make humorous statements about their own lives or pop culture references.
The meme first gained traction on Tumblr in the early 2010s, but it wasn’t until the rise of Twitter and Instagram that it truly took off. Now, you can find the Sisters Meme all over the internet, from Reddit to TikTok. People have used it to make jokes about everything from politics to relationships to the latest memes.
Why Has the Sisters Meme Become So Popular?
Part of the meme’s appeal is its versatility. The blank book provides a blank slate for people to add their own humor and creativity. Additionally, the Hocus Pocus fandom is a passionate one, and the Sisters Meme has become a way for fans to connect and share their love of the movie.
The meme has also been embraced by celebrities, further fueling its popularity. In 2019, the official Hocus Pocus Twitter account shared a version of the meme, featuring the sisters looking at a picture of the film’s stars, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. Responses to the Sisters Meme
The Sisters Meme has received a lot of love from fans, but not everyone is a fan. Some have criticized the meme for being overused or for taking attention away from other aspects of the film. Others have pointed out that the meme isn’t even accurate to the scene in the movie, as the sisters are actually looking at a map, not a book.
However, for the most part, the response to the Sisters Meme has been overwhelmingly positive. Fans have praised its humor and creativity, and many have shared their own versions of the meme. Some have even created merchandise featuring the meme, such as t-shirts and stickers.
The Legacy of the Sisters Meme
As with many memes, it’s hard to say how long the Sisters Meme will remain popular. However, given the enduring popularity of Hocus Pocus and the meme’s versatility, it’s likely that it will continue to be shared for years to come. It’s also possible that the meme will inspire new generations to discover the movie and its iconic characters.
