It’s been a year since the shade glasses meme first appeared on social media, and it still continues to make people laugh. The meme features a person wearing sunglasses, with a caption that usually involves a witty one-liner or a sarcastic comment. Some popular variations include “I can’t see the haters with these on” and “When you’re trying to hide your eye bags from your boss.”
So, what’s the story behind the shade glasses meme? Let’s take a closer look.
The Origin of the Meme
The shade glasses meme first appeared on Twitter in early 2022, when a user posted a photo of themselves wearing sunglasses with the caption “When you’re too cool for school.” The tweet quickly went viral, and soon other users started creating their own versions of the meme.
But why did this particular meme catch on so quickly? According to social media experts, it’s because the meme taps into a universal desire to appear cool and confident.
The Popularity of the Meme
Since its inception, the shade glasses meme has spread like wildfire across various social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. It has also been featured in numerous online articles and even made an appearance on several late-night talk shows.
Part of the meme’s appeal is its versatility. People have used it to express a wide range of emotions, from cockiness to insecurity. It’s also incredibly easy to create your own version of the meme, which has contributed to its widespread popularity.
The Response from People
Many people have embraced the shade glasses meme and have praised it for its humor and relatability. One Twitter user wrote, “I love the shade glasses meme because it’s a reminder that we’re all just trying to look cool and confident, even when we’re not.” Another user commented, “The shade glasses meme is the perfect way to express my mood when I’m feeling sassy.”
However, not everyone is a fan of the meme. Some critics have argued that it promotes a superficial and narcissistic culture. They argue that the meme encourages people to focus on their appearance rather than their character or values.
The Future of the Meme
As with any meme, it’s hard to predict how long the shade glasses meme will remain popular. However, it’s clear that it has already become a staple of internet culture. Whether it will continue to evolve and adapt in the coming years remains to be seen.
