The “Memes Peña Grito 2022” received a mixed response from people. While some found the memes hilarious and entertaining, others criticized them for trivializing a significant national event. Mexican journalist, Carlos Loret de Mola, tweeted, “It’s a shame that the ‘Grito’, a cry for freedom, has become a source of ridicule.” However, others defended the memes, arguing that humor is an essential tool to cope with difficult times, especially during a global pandemic. Mexican artist, Luis Gerardo Mendez, tweeted, “The ‘Memes Peña Grito 2022’ are a sign that Mexicans can laugh at themselves and find humor in difficult times. In 2023, the political landscape of Mexico continues to be a topic of discussion, but this time with a twist. The recent visit of former President Enrique Peña Nieto to the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) has sparked a wave of memes across social media platforms, providing a humorous take on the often-serious world of politics.

Background: Peña Nieto’s Visit to IPN

On a sunny day in May 2023, former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto visited the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) to give a talk on the importance of education. However, his speech was overshadowed by the memes that followed, as students and internet users couldn’t resist adding their own humorous captions and images to the event.

The Memes

The memes that emerged from Peña Nieto’s visit to IPN were diverse and creative, ranging from political commentary to pop culture references. One popular meme featured a photo of Peña Nieto with the caption “When you realize you forgot your notes at home,” while another showed him holding a piece of paper with a blank expression, captioned “When you didn’t study for the test but still got an A.”

Many of the memes also highlighted Peña Nieto’s past controversies, such as the alleged involvement of his government in the disappearance of 43 students in 2014. One meme showed Peña Nieto with the caption “When someone mentions Ayotzinapa,” referring to the tragedy that still haunts the country. Another featured him with the caption “When you realize you still haven’t built that wall,” poking fun at his relationship with former US President Donald Trump.

Response and Comments

The memes of Peña Nieto’s visit to IPN have garnered a lot of attention and reaction from people across Mexico and beyond. While some see them as a harmless form of humor, others criticize them for trivializing serious issues and perpetuating a culture of mockery.

María, a student at IPN, says, “I think the memes are funny, but at the same time, it’s important to remember that Peña Nieto’s visit was a serious event. We shouldn’t forget the issues that he and his government were involved in, and we should hold our leaders accountable for their actions.”

On the other hand, Juan, a social media influencer, says, “The memes are a way for people to express themselves and criticize the government in a creative way. It’s a form of satire that has been used throughout history to challenge power and authority.”

Tips for Making Memes

If you’re interested in making memes like those inspired by Peña Nieto’s visit to IPN, here are a few tips:

1. Know Your Audience

Before making a meme, it’s important to know who your target audience is and what kind of humor they appreciate. A meme that works for one group may not be as effective for another.

2. Use Relevant Images

The success of a meme often depends on the choice of image. Choose an image that is relevant to the topic or message you want to convey.

3. Be Creative

Memes are all about creativity and originality. Try to come up with a unique and humorous take on a current event or issue.

4. Don’t Cross the Line

While memes can be a fun and harmless way to express oneself, it’s important to remember that there are limits. Avoid making memes that are offensive or hurtful to others.

Conclusion

The memes of Peña Nieto’s visit to IPN have sparked a conversation about the role of humor in politics and society. While some criticize them for trivializing serious issues, others see them as a form of satire and critique. Regardless of one’s opinion, it’s clear that memes have become an integral part of internet culture and will continue to be a source of humor and commentary for years to come.
