In 2020, the United States Space Force (USSF) unveiled a new logo to represent the newest branch of the military. The design featured a delta symbol, a nod to the Air Force Space Command, surrounded by an orbiting globe and stars. However, the logo quickly caught the attention of internet users who noticed a striking resemblance to the logo of Starfleet, the fictional space force from the Star Trek franchise.

Fast forward to 2023, and the Space Force logo meme has become a cultural phenomenon. Here’s everything you need to know about this internet sensation.

How Did the Space Force Logo Meme Start?

The Space Force logo meme originated from a tweet by actor George Takei, who played Hikaru Sulu in the original Star Trek series. On January 24, 2020, he tweeted a side-by-side comparison of the Space Force logo and the Starfleet logo, with the caption “Ahem. We are expecting some royalties from this…” The tweet quickly went viral, with over 200,000 likes and 40,000 retweets.

The tweet sparked a wave of creativity among internet users, who began creating their own versions of the Space Force logo with different pop culture references. Some examples include a logo featuring Darth Vader’s helmet in place of the delta symbol and a logo featuring the TARDIS from Doctor Who.

What Do People Think of the Space Force Logo Meme?

Opinions on the Space Force logo meme are mixed. Some people find it hilarious and enjoy the creativity of the internet community. Others find it disrespectful to the new branch of the military and believe that it undermines the seriousness of the Space Force’s mission.

Retired Air Force Brigadier General Ed Timperlake voiced his support for the Space Force logo, stating that “the delta symbol is very much a part of space heritage and has been used in many space-related logos and badges over the years.”

Is the Space Force Logo Meme Harmful?

While some people may find the Space Force logo meme harmless, others believe that it could have negative consequences. According to psychologist Dr. Pamela Rutledge, “memes can be used to polarize people and create division, which can have real-world consequences. They can also be used to trivialize serious issues, which can be harmful in its own way.”

However, others argue that the Space Force logo meme is simply a way for people to express their creativity and humor, and that it does not have any real-world consequences.

What Does the Future Hold for the Space Force Logo Meme?

It’s unclear what the future holds for the Space Force logo meme. Some believe that the meme will eventually die out as people move on to the next internet sensation. Others believe that the meme will continue to evolve and inspire new iterations.

Regardless of its future, the Space Force logo meme has left a lasting impact on internet culture and has become a symbol of the power of creativity and humor in the digital age.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 25 years since the original Space Jam hit theaters. The movie, which combined live-action and animation, was an instant hit, grossing over $230 million worldwide. Now, in 2023, we have a new Space Jam movie, Space Jam: A New Legacy, which brings back the beloved characters and introduces new ones. In this article, we’ll explore some of the iconic Space Jam themes that have made the franchise so successful.

The Power of Teamwork

One of the most important themes of the original Space Jam was the power of teamwork. In the movie, Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes team up to defeat the Monstars in a basketball game. This theme has resonated with audiences over the years, and it’s still just as relevant today. The new movie continues this theme, as LeBron James and the Tune Squad work together to save his son.

“I think the message of teamwork is so important,” says former NBA player and current ESPN analyst Jalen Rose. “Basketball is a team sport, and it takes everyone working together to win. The Space Jam movies do a great job of showing that.”

Believing in Yourself

Another theme that’s prevalent in both Space Jam movies is the importance of believing in yourself. In the original movie, Michael Jordan is initially hesitant to join the Tune Squad, but he eventually realizes that he has what it takes to help them win. In the new movie, LeBron James has to believe in himself to save his son and defeat the Goon Squad.

“I think believing in yourself is such an important message,” says WNBA star and Olympic gold medalist Breanna Stewart. “Especially for kids who might be struggling with self-confidence. Seeing characters like Michael Jordan and LeBron James overcome their doubts and succeed is really inspiring.”

The Power of Imagination

One of the unique aspects of the Space Jam franchise is the way it blends live-action and animation. The new movie takes this even further, featuring characters from a wide range of Warner Bros. properties. This theme of imagination and creativity is a big part of what makes Space Jam so beloved.

“I think the world of Space Jam is so fun and imaginative,” says actor and comedian Lil Rel Howery, who plays LeBron James’ best friend in the new movie. “It’s a place where anything can happen, and I think that’s really appealing to people.”

The Importance of Family

In Space Jam: A New Legacy, LeBron James’ character is motivated by his desire to save his son. This theme of family is something that’s been present in the Space Jam franchise from the beginning. In the original movie, the Looney Tunes are like a family to each other, and Michael Jordan’s character is motivated by his desire to get back to his own family.

“I think family is such an important theme in these movies,” says actor Don Cheadle, who plays the villain in the new movie. “It’s something that everyone can relate to, and it adds an emotional depth to the story.”

Conclusion

Space Jam has been a cultural touchstone for over 25 years, and it’s exciting to see the franchise continue with Space Jam: A New Legacy. Whether you’re a fan of basketball, animation, or just good old-fashioned fun, there’s something in these movies for everyone. By exploring themes like teamwork, self-belief, imagination, and family, Space Jam has become more than just a movie – it’s a cultural phenomenon that continues to inspire and entertain audiences around the world.
