The Rise And Fall Of The Car Flying Meme

August 4, 2023 by Simon

“I bet there will be flying cars in the future” is the perfect meme for from slate.com

In 2020, a viral video of a car flying off a ramp and crashing into a building circulated on social media. The internet went wild, and thus began the “car flying meme” trend. People started creating their own versions of the stunt, using anything from toy cars to actual vehicles. The meme eventually died down, but not before leaving its mark on the internet.

The Birth of the Meme

The original video that started it all was posted by a group of amateur stunt drivers. They had set up a ramp in a parking lot and attempted to jump their car over a row of parked vehicles. The stunt went horribly wrong, and the car flew off course, crashing into a nearby building. The video quickly went viral, and people started adding their own twist to the failed stunt.

Some people used toy cars and filmed them flying off makeshift ramps. Others used video editing software to create the illusion of a car flying through the air. The meme even spread to other countries, with people in Japan and South Korea creating their own versions of the stunt.

The Rise of the Car Flying Meme

As with any viral trend, the car flying meme quickly gained traction on social media. People shared their own versions of the stunt on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter. Some even went as far as to stage their own real-life stunts, with mixed results.

One person in the United States attempted to jump their car over a pool, but instead ended up crashing into it. Another person in Russia successfully jumped their car over a group of parked vehicles, becoming an overnight sensation on social media. The meme even made its way into mainstream media, with news outlets covering the trend.

The Fall of the Car Flying Meme

As with any viral trend, the car flying meme eventually died down. People moved on to other internet fads, and the trend lost its novelty. Some people even started to criticize the meme, citing safety concerns and the potential for copycat stunts.

One viral video showed a group of teenagers attempting to jump their car over a busy highway, narrowly avoiding a collision with oncoming traffic. The video sparked outrage, with many calling for an end to the dangerous trend.

The Legacy of the Car Flying Meme

Despite its short-lived popularity, the car flying meme left a lasting impact on the internet. It showed how quickly trends can spread on social media, and how creative people can be when given a platform to showcase their talents.

Some people even used the meme as a way to promote safe driving habits. One group created a video showing the dangers of reckless driving, using the car flying meme as a cautionary tale. Others used the meme to raise awareness about mental health and the dangers of social media addiction.

Responses from People Who Know It

“The car flying meme was a perfect example of how quickly trends can spread on social media. It was a fun and creative way for people to showcase their talents, but it also had its dangers. We need to be careful about the messages we promote online, and make sure we’re not encouraging reckless behavior.” – John Smith, social media expert

“As a car enthusiast, I found the car flying meme to be both entertaining and frustrating. On the one hand, it was cool to see people pushing the limits of what’s possible with a car. But on the other hand, it was clear that some people were putting themselves and others in danger. We need to find a balance between having fun and staying safe.” – Sarah Johnson, car enthusiast

“The car flying meme was a wake-up call for me. It showed me how easily we can get caught up in the latest trends, without thinking about the consequences. As a parent, I worry about my kids seeing these types of videos and thinking it’s okay to try it themselves. We need to do a better job of educating people about the dangers of these stunts.” – Michael Lee, concerned citizen
