A Collection Of The Best Hamilton Memes
A Collection Of The Best Hamilton Memes from mamasgeeky.com

The year is 2016, and a new Broadway musical is taking the world by storm. That musical is Hamilton, the brainchild of Lin-Manuel Miranda. With its catchy songs, diverse cast, and revolutionary themes, Hamilton quickly became a cultural phenomenon. And, like any good cultural phenomenon, it spawned its fair share of memes.

One of the most popular Hamilton memes to emerge was the “Say No To This” meme. The meme took its name from a song in the show, in which the character of Alexander Hamilton cheats on his wife with a woman named Maria Reynolds. In the song, Maria convinces Hamilton to stay with her by saying “Say No To This”.

The meme took this line and applied it to various situations, with people using it to express their desire to resist temptation or avoid doing something they know they shouldn’t. For example, someone might post a picture of a delicious cake with the caption “Say No To This” to express their commitment to their diet.

The Meme Goes Viral

As with any meme, the “Say No To This” meme started small, with a few Hamilton fans sharing it on social media. But it quickly gained traction, with more and more people jumping on the bandwagon. Soon, it seemed like everyone was using the meme to express their own struggles with temptation.

Part of what made the meme so popular was its versatility. It could be applied to just about any situation where someone was trying to resist something tempting. And, of course, it was always fun to tie it back to Hamilton and its catchy songs.

The Backlash Begins

As with any viral sensation, the “Say No To This” meme eventually started to draw criticism. Some people felt that it was overused, or that it trivialized the serious themes of Hamilton. Others felt that it was insensitive to survivors of sexual assault, given that the song it was based on depicted Hamilton cheating on his wife.

One Twitter user wrote: “I love Hamilton as much as the next person, but the ‘Say No To This’ meme is really starting to bother me. It’s not cute to make light of infidelity and sexual coercion.” Others echoed this sentiment, arguing that the meme was in poor taste.

The Response From Hamilton Fans

Of course, not everyone agreed with the critics. Many Hamilton fans defended the meme, arguing that it was harmless fun and that people were overreacting. Some even pointed out that the meme could be seen as empowering, given that it was about resisting temptation and standing up for oneself.

One fan tweeted: “I don’t think the ‘Say No To This’ meme is offensive. It’s just a silly way to express a common struggle. Plus, it’s a great reminder of how amazing the music in Hamilton is!”

The Legacy of the Meme

So, what can we learn from the “Say No To This” meme? For one thing, it’s a testament to the enduring popularity of Hamilton, which continues to inspire fans years after its debut. It’s also a reminder of how memes can take on a life of their own, spreading across social media and becoming a cultural touchstone.

But perhaps most importantly, the “Say No To This” meme is a reminder of the power of music to connect with people and inspire them. Hamilton may be a work of fiction, but its message of resilience and revolution has resonated with people around the world. And while the meme may have faded from popularity, its legacy lives on in the hearts of Hamilton fans everywhere.
