Since the Golden State Warriors’ historic NBA championship win in 2015, their fan base has exploded in size and creativity. From the “Splash Brothers” tandem of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to the team’s dominant run to five consecutive NBA Finals appearances, Warriors fans have had plenty of reasons to celebrate – and to create some hilarious memes along the way.

The Early Days of Warriors Memes

As with any team or cultural phenomenon, the earliest memes related to the Warriors were relatively simple and straightforward. Fans would use popular image templates – like the “I Should Buy a Boat” or “Bad Luck Brian” memes – and add captions related to the team’s struggles or triumphs.

One popular early meme featured a photo of Curry with the caption “My dad used to tell me…” followed by a humorous and often ridiculous piece of advice that supposedly helped the star point guard develop his skills. Another meme format involved using a photo of Thompson and adding text describing his incredible shooting accuracy.

These early memes were often shared on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, and they helped to establish a sense of camaraderie among Warriors fans around the world.

The Rise of the “Strength in Numbers” Era

After the Warriors’ championship win in 2015, the team adopted the slogan “Strength in Numbers” as a way to celebrate their collective success and the contributions of every player on the roster. This phrase quickly became a rallying cry for fans as well, and it inspired a new wave of memes and fan-made content.

One popular meme format from this era featured a photo of the team’s bench players with the caption “Strength in Numbers: When the Warriors’ second unit is better than your entire team.” Another meme featured a photo of Curry with the caption “Strength in Ankle Ligaments: When the Warriors’ best player misses a game and they still win by 20.”

These memes helped to showcase the depth and talent of the Warriors’ roster, and they also highlighted the team’s incredible success during this period. The Warriors would go on to win another championship in 2017, cementing their status as one of the greatest teams in NBA history.

The KD Era and Beyond

In 2016, the Warriors made a controversial move by signing superstar forward Kevin Durant. While this move certainly added to the team’s talent and success, it also led to some backlash from fans who felt that the team was becoming too dominant and predictable.

As a result, many memes during this era focused on the idea of the Warriors as “villains” or “supervillains” in the NBA. Fans would use images of comic book villains like Thanos or Darth Vader and add Warriors-themed captions, or they would use photos of the team’s starters with captions like “The Avengers of the NBA.”

Despite this negative reaction from some fans and commentators, the Warriors continued to dominate the NBA during this period. They made three more NBA Finals appearances and won two more championships, solidifying their place in the annals of basketball history.

Reaction and Comments

Warriors Fan

“I love all the memes that have come out of the Warriors’ success over the years. They really capture the spirit of the team and the fan base, and they’re always good for a laugh.”

NBA Commentator

“While some people might see the Warriors as a ‘superteam’ or a ‘villainous’ force in the NBA, you can’t deny their incredible talent and success. The memes are just a fun way to poke fun at the team and celebrate their accomplishments at the same time.”

Casual Fan

“I’m not a huge basketball fan, but even I can appreciate a good Warriors meme. They’re always so clever and creative, and they really capture the team’s personality and style of play.”

Overall, the history of Warriors memes is a testament to the team’s incredible success and the passion of their fans. Whether they’re celebrating a championship win or poking fun at their opponents, Warriors fans have proven time and again that they’re among the most creative and devoted in all of sports.
