The Rise of South Carolina Weather Memes
South Carolina weather memes have been around for several years, but they really gained popularity during Hurricane Florence in 2018. Memes featuring Governor Henry McMaster, who declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm, went viral on social media.
The Best South Carolina Weather Memes
Some of the best South Carolina weather memes are those that take a familiar image and add a clever twist. For example, one popular meme features a photo of the Ravenel Bridge in Charleston with the caption “When you’re driving over the bridge and it’s raining on one side and sunny on the other.” Another meme features a photo of a flooded street with the caption “South Carolina: where the streets are rivers and the rivers are also rivers.”
What People are Saying About South Carolina Weather Memes
Many South Carolinians love South Carolina weather memes and see them as a way to make light of a frustrating situation. “I love seeing these memes pop up on my social media feeds,” says Charleston resident Sarah Johnson. “They remind me that I’m not the only one dealing with crazy weather.” Others, however, feel that South Carolina weather memes can be insensitive to those who have experienced severe weather events. “I think it’s important to remember that hurricanes and other weather events can be really traumatic for people,” says Columbia resident David Lee. “We shouldn’t make light of something that can be so devastating.”
