In 2017, Ubisoft released For Honor, a multiplayer action game featuring knights, vikings, and samurais battling it out in epic melee combat. One of the most popular characters was the Warden, a knight with a longsword and a sense of honor. But what really made the Warden stand out was the memes.

The Birth of Warden Memes

It all started with a simple phrase uttered by the Warden in the game’s tutorial: “Ad mortem, inimicus” which means “To death, enemy” in Latin. Players immediately latched onto this phrase and began creating memes based on it.

One of the earliest and most popular Warden memes was the “Incredibilis” meme. In the game, the Warden has a move where he yells “Incredibilis!” while performing a shoulder bash. This move quickly became a fan favorite and spawned countless memes.

Other popular Warden memes include “Vultcano” (a reference to a volcanic map location in the game), “Shoulder Bash Spam” (a criticism of players who use the move excessively), and “Crushing Counterstrike” (a move where the Warden blocks an attack and immediately counters with a powerful strike).

The Impact of Warden Memes

The popularity of Warden memes had a significant impact on the For Honor community. Memes brought players together and created a sense of camaraderie. They also provided a much-needed break from the intense gameplay and helped to lighten the mood.

Warden memes also helped to bring attention to the game. Many players who had never heard of For Honor before were introduced to it through the memes. This helped to expand the player base and keep the game alive.

The Legacy of Warden Memes

Even though For Honor was released several years ago, Warden memes continue to be popular today. Fans still create new memes and share old ones on social media and gaming forums.

One Reddit user, u/InfiniteCookie, said “For Honor was the first game I ever played online, and the Warden memes were a big reason why I stuck around. They made me feel like I was part of a community.”

Another Reddit user, u/Randomguy-517, said “I still play For Honor today, and the Warden memes are a big part of why I love the game. They’re just so funny and relatable.”

Final Thoughts

Warden memes may seem silly to outsiders, but to For Honor players, they’re an important part of the game’s culture. They bring players together, provide a sense of humor, and help to keep the game alive. Ad mortem, inimicus!
