The Birth of the Meme
It all started in January 2023 when Twitter user @gemmemes posted a screenshot from the scene with the caption, “When you’re running late to your own funeral.” The post quickly gained traction, and soon, variations of the meme started popping up all over social media. People were using the clip to illustrate everything from their morning commute to their reaction to a particularly spicy meme.
The appeal of the meme is clear: the image of a frantic Sandler darting through the crowded streets of NYC is inherently funny. But there’s also something relatable about the scene. We’ve all been in situations where we feel like we’re running late and everything around us is moving at lightning speed. The meme taps into that anxiety and turns it into something we can all laugh at.
The Impact of the Meme
It’s not just regular people who have gotten in on the Uncut Gems meme running trend. Celebrities like Chrissy Teigen, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and even Adam Sandler himself have posted their own versions of the meme.
