If you were a kid in the early 2000s, you know exactly what Pokemon is. The franchise became a worldwide phenomenon, with millions of people playing the video games, collecting the trading cards, and watching the animated series. In 2016, Pokemon made a comeback with the release of Pokemon Go, a mobile game that allowed players to catch Pokemon in the real world using augmented reality technology. And with the resurgence of Pokemon came the resurgence of Pokemon memes, particularly on Tumblr.

The Rise of Pokemon Go Memes on Tumblr

Tumblr is a social media platform that is known for its user-generated content, particularly in the form of memes. When Pokemon Go was released, it didn’t take long for users to start creating and sharing memes about the game. Some of these memes were funny, some were relatable, and some were just plain weird. But they all had one thing in common: they captured the nostalgia and excitement that came with playing Pokemon as a kid.

One of the most popular Pokemon Go memes on Tumblr was the “Pokemon Go to the Polls” meme. This meme was a reference to a statement made by Hillary Clinton during her 2016 presidential campaign, where she encouraged people to “Pokemon Go to the polls” and vote. The meme took off on Tumblr, with users creating their own versions of the slogan and using it to encourage others to do things that were seemingly unrelated to voting, such as “Pokemon Go to the gym” or “Pokemon Go to bed.”

The Best Pokemon Go Memes on Tumblr

There were countless Pokemon Go memes on Tumblr, but some stood out more than others. Here are some of the best:

“When You Find a Rare Pokemon”

This meme featured a series of images of people reacting to finding rare Pokemon in the game. The images ranged from people jumping for joy to people crying tears of happiness. The captions on the images were often sarcastic or self-deprecating, such as “Finally, something good has happened in my life” or “This is the highlight of my year.”

“Team Instinct vs. Team Mystic vs. Team Valor”

One of the biggest features of Pokemon Go was the ability to choose a team to join: Team Instinct, Team Mystic, or Team Valor. Each team had its own set of values and beliefs, and users on Tumblr had a field day creating memes about the rivalry between the teams. Some of the memes were lighthearted, while others were downright vicious.

“Pokemon Go in a Nutshell”

This meme summed up the entire Pokemon Go experience in a single image. The image featured a screenshot from the game with the caption “Walk around for hours looking for Pokemon, find nothing but Zubats.”

Reaction to Pokemon Go Memes on Tumblr

Pokemon Go memes on Tumblr were generally well-received by the community. Many users appreciated the nostalgia factor of the memes and enjoyed being able to share their love for Pokemon with others. Some users even used the memes as a way to connect with other fans and make new friends. However, there were also some users who felt that the memes were overdone and repetitive.

“I love Pokemon Go, but I’m kind of tired of seeing the same memes over and over again,” said Tumblr user @pokemaster. “It’s like people are just regurgitating the same jokes and not really coming up with anything new.”

Conclusion

Overall, Pokemon Go memes on Tumblr were a fun and nostalgic way to relive the glory days of Pokemon. Whether you were Team Instinct, Team Mystic, or Team Valor, there was a meme out there for you. While some users may have grown tired of the memes over time, they will always hold a special place in the hearts of Pokemon fans everywhere.
