It’s been several years since the release of Aquaman, but the movie still manages to generate buzz. Not because of its groundbreaking visual effects or captivating storyline, but because of a meme that has taken the internet by storm. The “Aquaman Rotten Tomatoes Meme” has become so popular that even people who haven’t seen the movie are familiar with it. In this article, we dive deep into the origins of the meme, the reasons behind its popularity, and what it says about our culture’s obsession with ratings.

What is the Aquaman Rotten Tomatoes Meme?

For those who are unfamiliar with the meme, it’s a screenshot of a tweet that reads, “Aquaman has a 78% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That means it’s better than The Godfather (99%), The Dark Knight (94%), and every Star Wars movie (averaging 84%). Let that sink in.” The tweet is accompanied by a photo of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, looking smug and satisfied.

The meme is a commentary on the way we use ratings to determine the quality of movies. It suggests that the Rotten Tomatoes score is not a reliable indicator of a movie’s worth, and that some movies that are considered classics may not be as good as we remember them. It’s also a playful jab at fandom culture, which often pits different movies against each other in a battle for supremacy.

Where did the meme come from?

The origins of the meme are unclear, but it likely started on Twitter, where it quickly gained traction. The tweet has been shared thousands of times and has been the subject of countless memes and parodies. Some people have even created merchandise featuring the meme, including t-shirts and mugs.

Despite its popularity, the meme has also sparked some controversy. Some people have criticized it for being misleading, since it implies that Aquaman is better than some of the most beloved movies of all time. Others have defended it as a harmless joke that shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

What do people think about the meme?

The meme has elicited a wide range of responses from people. Some have embraced it as a clever commentary on the flaws of the rating system, while others have dismissed it as a silly joke. Here are some of the comments from people who know the meme:

• “I love this meme because it shows how ridiculous it is to compare movies based on their Rotten Tomatoes score. It’s all subjective, and we should just enjoy movies for what they are.” – @movielover123
• “This meme is so stupid. Aquaman is not better than The Godfather, end of story.” – @filmcritic
• “I think the meme is hilarious. It’s a reminder that we shouldn’t take movies too seriously, and that sometimes the most unexpected films can surprise us.” – @popculturejunkie
• “I don’t care about the meme. Aquaman is my favorite superhero, and I’ll defend it to the death.” – @aquamanfan

What does the meme say about our culture?

The Aquaman Rotten Tomatoes meme is just one example of how our culture has become obsessed with ratings and rankings. We use scores and reviews to determine what movies to watch, what books to read, and even what restaurants to visit. But are these ratings really a reliable indicator of quality? The meme suggests that they’re not, and that we should be wary of putting too much stock in them.

At the same time, the meme also reflects our love of pop culture and our desire to engage with it in new and creative ways. It’s a reminder that movies are not just entertainment, but also cultural artifacts that can inspire discussion and debate. And in the case of the Aquaman Rotten Tomatoes meme, it’s also a reminder that sometimes the most unexpected things can go viral and capture our attention.

Conclusion

The Aquaman Rotten Tomatoes meme is a testament to the power of social media and the way it can turn even the most obscure jokes into worldwide phenomena. It’s also a commentary on our culture’s obsession with ratings and rankings, and a reminder that we should be wary of relying too heavily on them. Whatever your opinion of the meme may be, there’s no denying that it has become a part of pop culture history, and that it will continue to be referenced and shared for years to come.
