The Origin of the Toy Story Monkey Meme
The Toy Story monkey meme first appeared in 2019, but it wasn’t until 2021 that it really started to take off. The image of the monkey comes from the third Toy Story movie, where it is seen wearing cymbals and banging them together. In the context of the movie, the monkey is a creepy, ominous figure that helps guard the toys from being discovered by humans.
However, the meme takes the character in a completely different direction. The caption “I don’t know what I expected” suggests that the monkey is surprised or disappointed by what is happening around him, which is often humorous in nature.
