The History of Old Person Memes
The old person meme first gained popularity in the early 2010s, with the rise of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. These memes were often created by taking a photo of an elderly person doing something humorous or unusual and adding a caption that played into the stereotype of older people being out of touch with modern technology or culture.
These memes quickly went viral, with people sharing them on their social media feeds and creating their own versions. Some of the most popular old person memes include “I’m not saying I’m old; I’m just saying that I remember when Pluto was a planet,” and “Back in my day, we didn’t have texting. We had to write a letter, fold it up, and pass it to the person next to us.”
The Return of Old Person Memes
Fast forward to 2023, and old person memes are making a comeback. The resurgence of these memes can be attributed to a few different factors. For one, nostalgia has been trending lately, with people yearning for the good old days of the past. Old person memes play into this nostalgia by showcasing a simpler time, before smartphones and social media took over our lives.
Another reason for the return of old person memes is their universal appeal. Everyone can relate to the humor of an older person doing something unexpected or funny. These memes bring people together through laughter and provide a much-needed break from the stresses of everyday life.
