The Rise of the Ivanka Trump Meme
When Donald Trump was elected president in 2016, his daughter Ivanka was thrust into the national spotlight. As a former model and businesswoman, Ivanka was seen as a glamorous and sophisticated addition to the White House. But as her father’s administration began to make controversial decisions, Ivanka quickly became a lightning rod for criticism.
One of the ways that people expressed their frustration with Ivanka was through memes. From images of her awkwardly standing next to world leaders to photoshopped pictures of her holding a martini while the world burns around her, the internet had a field day with Ivanka’s public persona.
But it wasn’t just her politics that people were making fun of. Ivanka’s attempts to position herself as a feminist icon were also a frequent target of memes. From her book “Women Who Work” to her speeches about empowering women in the workplace, many people saw Ivanka’s brand of feminism as hypocritical and out of touch.
The Backlash Against Ivanka Trump Memes
Despite the popularity of Ivanka Trump memes, not everyone was on board with making fun of the former first daughter. Some people argued that the memes were sexist and unfair, and that they were distracting from more important issues.
One of the most vocal critics of the Ivanka Trump meme phenomenon was her brother, Donald Trump Jr. In a tweet from 2017, he wrote, “Sad, but not surprising to watch self professed ‘feminists’ launching sexist attacks against @IvankaTrump. In their crazed world, sexism is OK if hurts their political enemies.”
Other defenders of Ivanka argued that she was being unfairly targeted because of her gender, and that she was simply trying to do her best in a difficult situation.
The Legacy of Ivanka Trump Memes
Now that the Trump administration is over, it’s unclear whether the Ivanka Trump meme phenomenon will continue. Some people might argue that she’s no longer relevant, while others might argue that her attempts to rehabilitate her public image make her an even more tempting target for parody.
Regardless of what happens in the future, it’s clear that the Ivanka Trump meme will go down in internet history as one of the most prominent examples of political satire in the digital age.
