Origins of the Poggers Meme
The Poggers meme can trace its roots back to the game of Pogs, which was popularized in the early 1990s. Pogs were small, round cardboard discs that were decorated with various designs and often featured popular characters from TV shows and movies. Players would stack the Pogs and then use a heavier disc, called a slammer, to try and knock down as many Pogs as possible.
Fast forward to 2023, and the Poggers meme has taken on a whole new meaning. The meme features a still image of Twitch streamer Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez, with his mouth open in excitement and his eyes wide in amazement. The image has become a symbol of excitement and hype in the gaming world, and is often used to express excitement or surprise in chat rooms and on social media.
The Evolution of the Poggers Meme
Over the years, the Poggers meme has undergone several different iterations and variations. Some of the most popular include:
- PogChamp: This is the original variation of the meme, featuring Gootecks’ iconic face.
- PogU: This variation features a cartoonish version of the PogChamp face, with exaggerated features and a more playful expression.
- Poggers 2.0: This version of the meme features a more subdued version of the PogChamp face, with less exaggerated features and a more serious expression.
Despite these variations, the core meaning of the Poggers meme remains the same: it’s a way to express excitement and hype in the online gaming community.
