It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a decade since the “disturbance in the force” meme first took the internet by storm. For those who may not remember or may not have been around at the time, the meme was based on a scene from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope in which Obi-Wan Kenobi senses a disturbance in the Force caused by the destruction of Alderaan. The meme took this moment and applied it to various situations, often humorous or absurd in nature.
At the height of its popularity, the “disturbance in the force” meme was everywhere. It appeared on social media, in online forums, and was even referenced in mainstream media. But like all memes, its popularity eventually waned and it faded into obscurity. However, looking back on it now, there are still some valuable lessons we can learn from the phenomenon.
