It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a decade since the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a game that has now become a cultural icon. One of the most popular factions in the game was the Thieves Guild, a group of sneaky, opportunistic thieves who prowled the streets of Riften. Over the years, the guild has become a meme sensation, with fans creating countless hilarious memes and jokes about the guild’s antics.
The Beginnings of the Thieves Guild Meme
The Thieves Guild meme phenomenon began shortly after the release of Skyrim in 2011. Fans were immediately drawn to the sneaky and sly characters of the Thieves Guild, and it wasn’t long before the memes started rolling in. The first memes were simple jokes about the guild’s thieving habits, such as stealing sweet rolls and other petty items from NPCs.
However, as the game became more popular and players delved deeper into the Thieves Guild questline, the memes began to take on a life of their own. Fans created memes that poked fun at the guild’s quirky characters, such as the sarcastic guild master Mercer Frey and the perpetually drunk Karliah.
The Most Popular Thieves Guild Memes
Over the years, some Thieves Guild memes have become more popular than others. One of the most famous is the “I’m in boys” meme, which features an image of Mercer Frey saying “I’m in” with a smug look on his face. This meme is often used to indicate that someone has successfully infiltrated a group or organization.
Another popular meme is the “sweet roll” meme, which features an image of a sweet roll with the caption “Let me guess, someone stole your sweet roll?” This meme is a reference to the fact that NPCs in the game often complain about their sweet rolls being stolen by the Thieves Guild.
What Fans Are Saying About the Thieves Guild Memes
Many fans of Skyrim and the Thieves Guild have embraced the meme phenomenon, with some even creating their own memes and sharing them on social media. One fan, who goes by the username “SkyrimFan420,” says, “The Thieves Guild memes are hilarious. They really capture the essence of the guild and its characters. I love seeing new memes pop up on my feed.”
However, not everyone is a fan of the Thieves Guild memes. Some players feel that the memes are overused and repetitive, and that they take away from the serious tone of the game. One player, who wishes to remain anonymous, says, “I think the Thieves Guild memes are funny, but they’re everywhere. It’s hard to escape them. Sometimes I just want to enjoy the game without all the memes.”
The Legacy of the Thieves Guild Meme
As Skyrim continues to be played and enjoyed by millions of fans around the world, it’s likely that the Thieves Guild memes will continue to be a part of the game’s cultural legacy. Whether you love them or hate them, it’s hard to deny the impact that these memes have had on the gaming community.
Only time will tell what other memes and jokes will come out of the world of Skyrim, but one thing is for sure: the Thieves Guild will always have a special place in the hearts of fans.
