Back in 2019, the world was introduced to a new meme that took the internet by storm – the “Sad Dog” meme. This meme featured a picture of a cute little Shiba Inu with a sad look on his face, accompanied by captions that were often relatable and hilarious. The meme quickly became popular, and it wasn’t long before it was all over social media, with people sharing their favorite versions of the meme and creating new ones.
But what happened to the Sad Dog meme? Did it disappear into obscurity like so many other memes before it, or did it manage to stand the test of time and remain a beloved part of internet culture? In this article, we’ll take a look back at the Sad Dog meme and see how it has fared over the years.
The Rise of the Sad Dog Meme
The Sad Dog meme first appeared on the internet in late 2019, and it quickly became a hit. The original picture of the Sad Dog was taken by a Japanese photographer named Ryoko Komatsu, who snapped the shot of her own dog, an adorable Shiba Inu named Kabosu. The picture was then shared on social media, where it caught the attention of meme creators.
Soon, people were adding captions to the picture of the Sad Dog, creating memes that were both funny and relatable. Some of the most popular captions included phrases like “When you realize it’s Monday tomorrow” and “When you’re trying to be happy, but life keeps knocking you down.” The Sad Dog meme became a way for people to express their own feelings of sadness or disappointment in a humorous way.
The Peak of the Sad Dog Meme
By early 2020, the Sad Dog meme was at the height of its popularity. It seemed like everyone was sharing their own versions of the meme, and new captions and images were being created every day. The Sad Dog even became a mascot of sorts for people who were feeling down or going through a tough time.
The Sad Dog meme was also popular outside of the internet. People began creating merchandise featuring the Sad Dog, including t-shirts, coffee mugs, and even stuffed animals. The Sad Dog had become a cultural phenomenon, and it seemed like it was here to stay.
The Decline of the Sad Dog Meme
As with all memes, the Sad Dog eventually began to lose its popularity. By mid-2020, the meme had become overused and tired, and people were starting to move on to other memes. The Sad Dog still had its fans, but it was no longer the ubiquitous presence on social media that it had once been.
However, even though the Sad Dog meme may not be as popular as it once was, it still has a dedicated following. People continue to create new versions of the meme and share them on social media, and the Sad Dog remains a beloved part of internet culture.
