The Memes
One of the most popular memes this year was “Ight, Imma head out,” which featured a cartoon depiction of Spongebob Squarepants walking out of a room. The caption was used to express a desire to leave a situation or conversation. The meme quickly spread on social media, and even made its way into mainstream culture, with celebrities like Justin Bieber and Travis Scott using it in their own posts.
Another popular meme was “Woman Yelling at a Cat,” which featured a screenshot of a woman yelling at a white cat sitting at a dinner table. The meme was typically used to convey a sense of frustration or anger, and became widely popular on Twitter and Instagram.
One of the most controversial memes of the year was “OK Boomer,” which was used to dismiss the opinions of older generations. While the meme was initially used as a form of light-hearted humor, it quickly became a source of tension between generations, with some accusing younger people of being disrespectful and ageist.
Responses
The memes of 2022 were met with a variety of responses from people all over the world. Some found them to be a welcome distraction from the chaos of everyday life, while others criticized them as being unoriginal and overused.
One Twitter user said, “The memes this year have been on point. It’s been a tough year, but at least we can still laugh.” Another user, however, was less enthusiastic, saying “I’m so tired of seeing the same memes over and over again. Can we please come up with something new?”
