Former Argentine President Mauricio Macri was the subject of countless memes during his presidency from 2015 to 2019. From his infamous gaffes to his controversial policies, Macri was a constant source of material for meme-makers. Even after his presidency ended, Macri memes continued to circulate on social media platforms. Let’s take a look back at some of the most hilarious memes that made us laugh and cringe at the same time.

The “Macri Gato” Meme

One of the earliest and most popular Macri memes was the “Macri Gato” meme. Gato is a slang word in Argentina that means “cat”, but it is also used to refer to a person who is sly or cunning. The meme showed Macri’s face photoshopped onto a cat’s body, with text that read “Macri Gato”. The meme was a play on words, as it referred to both Macri’s perceived cunningness and his physical appearance.

“The Macri Gato meme was hilarious,” said Juan, a 27-year-old student from Buenos Aires. “It was a clever way to criticize Macri’s policies without being too harsh.”

The “Macri is Love” Meme

Another popular Macri meme was the “Macri is Love” meme. This meme showed Macri’s face photoshopped onto a heart-shaped background, with text that read “Macri is Love”. The meme was a satire of Macri’s cult-like following, with many Argentines seeing him as a messiah-like figure who would save the country from economic and political turmoil.

“The Macri is Love meme was so cringey,” said Sofia, a 31-year-old nurse from Cordoba. “It showed how blind some people were to Macri’s faults and how he was not the savior they thought he was.”

The “Macri’s Gaffe” Meme

Macri was notorious for making gaffes during his presidency, and these gaffes were often the subject of memes. One of the most memorable gaffes was when Macri referred to Chinese President Xi Jinping as “Ping Pong”. The meme showed Macri’s face with text that read “Ping Pong”, with many Argentines criticizing him for his lack of diplomacy.

“The Ping Pong meme was hilarious,” said Carlos, a 40-year-old businessman from Mendoza. “It showed how unprepared Macri was for the presidency and how he was not fit to represent Argentina on the global stage.”

The “Macri’s Economic Policies” Meme

Macri’s economic policies were a major source of controversy during his presidency, and this controversy was reflected in many memes. One of the most popular memes showed Macri’s face with text that read “I’m not saying I’m going to fix the economy, I’m just saying it’s going to be a bumpy ride”. The meme was a criticism of Macri’s economic policies, which many Argentines felt were causing more harm than good.

“The bumpy ride meme was spot on,” said Maria, a 35-year-old teacher from Rosario. “Macri’s economic policies were a disaster, and this meme captured the frustration and anger that many Argentines felt.”

The “Macri’s Legacy” Meme

Even after Macri’s presidency ended, his legacy continued to be a subject of memes. One of the most popular memes showed Macri’s face with text that read “Thanks for nothing, Macri”. The meme was a criticism of Macri’s presidency, which many Argentines felt had been a failure.

“The thanks for nothing meme was a fitting end to Macri’s presidency,” said Diego, a 29-year-old journalist from La Plata. “It showed how disappointed many Argentines were with Macri and his policies.”

In Conclusion

Mauricio Macri may no longer be president of Argentina, but his legacy lives on in the world of memes. From the “Macri Gato” meme to the “Thanks for nothing” meme, Macri was a constant source of material for meme-makers. While some memes were lighthearted and humorous, others were critical of Macri’s policies and actions. Regardless of their tone, these memes reflect the complex relationship that Argentines had with their 53rd president.
