knights

The internet is a strange and unpredictable place. In 2011, a low-budget horror-comedy film called Knights of Badassdom was released to mixed reviews and little fanfare. Despite its lackluster reception, one scene from the movie became an unexpected internet sensation and spawned a meme that would persist for years to come.

The Birth of the Meme

The scene in question involves a group of LARPers (Live Action Role Players) summoning a demon by accident, leading to chaos and hilarity. In one particularly memorable moment, the character played by Peter Dinklage (who would later gain fame as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones) charges into battle with a cry of “I am the Great Mighty Poo!”

Almost immediately after the movie’s release, this line began to circulate online. It was remixed into songs, used as a catchphrase, and even turned into merchandise. The absurdity of Dinklage’s delivery and the sheer randomness of the line made it perfect meme material.

The Spread of the Meme

As with many memes, the Knights of Badassdom phenomenon began on niche corners of the internet and gradually spread to more mainstream platforms. It gained traction on sites like Reddit, 4chan, and Tumblr, where users would share remixes and mashups of the “I am the Great Mighty Poo” line.

Eventually, the meme made its way to Twitter and Facebook, where it reached a wider audience. It even caught the attention of Peter Dinklage himself, who acknowledged the meme’s existence in a 2015 interview.

The Decline of the Meme

Like all memes, the Knights of Badassdom phenomenon eventually began to lose steam. As time passed, the line became less relevant and less funny. Other memes took its place, and the internet moved on.

However, the meme still has its fans and its place in internet history. Many people who were online in the early 2010s have fond memories of the “I am the Great Mighty Poo” meme and the Knights of Badassdom movie that spawned it.

Responses from Fans

One fan of the meme, Reddit user u/greatmightypoo123, says, “I remember when this meme was everywhere. It was so stupid but so funny at the same time. I still chuckle when I think about it.”

Another fan, Twitter user @LARPer4Life, says, “Knights of Badassdom may not have been a great movie, but it gave us one of the best memes of all time. I still say ‘I am the Great Mighty Poo’ whenever I’m feeling down.”

The Legacy of the Meme

Although the Knights of Badassdom meme may no longer be at the forefront of internet culture, it still has a lasting legacy. It serves as a reminder of the weird and wonderful things that can come out of the internet, and of the power of a single line or image to capture the public’s imagination.

As long as people continue to create and share memes, the legacy of the Knights of Badassdom meme will live on.
