Some people feel that Jesus should be revered and respected, and that making jokes about him is inappropriate. However, there are others who argue that Jesus himself had a sense of humor, and that memes are a modern form of storytelling.

The Response from People Who Know It

We asked several religious leaders and scholars for their thoughts on Jesus memes during Christmas season. Here’s what they had to say: Father John, a Catholic priest, says, “While I understand that people want to have fun during the holiday season, I believe that making jokes about Jesus is disrespectful. We should remember that Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, and not to make light of his teachings.” Dr. Sarah, a religious studies professor, has a different opinion. She says, “I think Jesus memes are a great way to connect with younger generations who may not be as familiar with the Christian faith. They provide a way to engage with people who may not otherwise be interested in religion.”
