Hamilton the Musical has been a sensation since its debut in 2015. The show has won countless awards, has been seen by millions of people, and has even been turned into a movie. However, the show’s influence goes beyond the stage and screen. In recent years, Hamilton has become a popular source for memes, particularly in the form of text messages.
The Birth of Hamilton Text Memes
The first Hamilton text memes started appearing on social media in 2016. At the time, the show was still incredibly popular, and fans were finding new ways to express their love for the musical. The idea of using text messages to create memes was particularly appealing because it allowed fans to imagine what their favorite characters would say in real-life situations.
One of the earliest Hamilton text memes featured a screenshot of a text message conversation between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. In the conversation, Burr asks Hamilton what he’s doing, to which Hamilton responds with a line from the show: “Writing like you’re running out of time.” The meme quickly went viral, and soon, Hamilton fans were creating their own text message conversations.
The Anatomy of a Hamilton Text Meme
Hamilton text memes typically feature a screenshot of a text message conversation between two or more characters from the show. The messages are usually written in a way that mirrors the characters’ personalities and dialogues from the musical. For example, Alexander Hamilton’s messages might be written in a more formal, verbose style, while Aaron Burr’s messages might be more restrained and polite.
The messages in Hamilton text memes often reference specific lines or moments from the show. For example, a meme might feature a conversation between Hamilton and George Washington, with Hamilton asking Washington for his advice and Washington responding with a line from the show: “Winning is easy, young man. Governing’s harder.”
