It has been almost a decade since the tragic death of Glenn Rhee in the hit TV show, The Walking Dead. Yet, his character’s legacy lives on in the form of memes that have become a staple in internet culture. From the iconic “Glenn under the dumpster” meme to the “Maggie, I’ll find you” meme, TWD Glenn memes have been a constant source of humor, nostalgia, and even comfort for fans.
The Birth of TWD Glenn Memes
The first Glenn meme emerged shortly after the season six finale, where Glenn appeared to be devoured by walkers. The show’s creators left his fate ambiguous, leading fans to speculate and create memes that poked fun at the situation. The most popular one featured Glenn’s face superimposed on a dumpster, with the caption “I’m fine.”
As the show progressed, Glenn became a fan-favorite character for his wit, bravery, and loyalty. His relationship with Maggie also endeared him to viewers, who rooted for them to survive and reunite. Every time Glenn faced a near-death experience, memes would flood social media, with fans expressing their relief and humor at the same time.
The Golden Age of TWD Glenn Memes
From 2015 to 2017, TWD Glenn memes reached their peak, as the show’s popularity soared and the character’s storylines became more intense. Memes ranged from silly to poignant, capturing the essence of Glenn’s personality and impact on the series. Some of the most memorable ones include:
- Glenn holding a pizza box with the words “Delivery for Negan”
- A scene from Up where Glenn and Maggie’s faces were superimposed on the characters
- A GIF of Glenn saying “Hey, dumbass” to Rick
- A photoshopped image of Glenn as Spiderman, with the caption “My spidey-sense is tingling, and it’s not good”
These memes not only entertained fans but also expressed their love and appreciation for Glenn and the show. Some fans even used them as coping mechanisms for the emotional trauma that came with watching The Walking Dead.
The Decline of TWD Glenn Memes
After Glenn’s death in season seven, TWD Glenn memes started to dwindle in number and quality. While some fans still tried to make memes out of his previous scenes, the overall sentiment became more melancholic and nostalgic. Without Glenn’s presence, the show lost a vital spark that made it unique, and the memes reflected that.
However, in recent years, some fans have tried to revive TWD Glenn memes, with mixed results. Some have called for a “Glenn meme renaissance,” while others have criticized it as disrespectful or outdated. The show itself has also undergone significant changes, with new characters and storylines that may not resonate with the old fanbase.
