Since its inception in 2018, Gambit has become one of the most popular game modes in Destiny 2. This fast-paced, high-stakes activity requires players to work together to collect motes, defeat enemies, and ultimately summon a powerful boss. But what really sets Gambit apart is the sense of humor and camaraderie that has developed around it, thanks in large part to the proliferation of Gambit memes.
What Are Gambit Memes?
Gambit memes are essentially jokes, images, and videos that riff on or parody the Gambit game mode in Destiny 2. They range from silly and lighthearted to biting and sarcastic, and they can take many different forms. Some Gambit memes poke fun at the game mode’s mechanics, while others focus on the community’s tendencies and quirks.
For example, one popular Gambit meme features a screenshot of a player’s inventory, which is filled with dozens of motes. The caption reads, “When you’re the only one on your team who knows how to bank motes.” Another meme shows a player crouched behind cover, waiting for their teammate to revive them. The caption reads, “When you die in Gambit and your teammate spends the next five minutes killing every enemy in sight instead of reviving you.”
Why Are Gambit Memes So Popular?
Part of the appeal of Gambit memes is their universality. Almost every Destiny 2 player has tried Gambit at some point, and so almost every player can relate to the jokes and references that Gambit memes make. Additionally, Gambit memes help to create a sense of community and camaraderie among players. By sharing and laughing at these memes, players can bond over their shared experiences and frustrations.
But Gambit memes are more than just inside jokes. They also serve as a form of social commentary, highlighting the ups and downs of the game mode and the community that plays it. Some Gambit memes are critical of the game mode’s mechanics or the way that players behave, while others celebrate the creativity and ingenuity of the community.
The Best Gambit Memes of All Time
Of course, everyone has their own favorite Gambit memes. But here are a few that have stood the test of time:
The “Invader Incoming!” Meme
This meme features a screenshot of the in-game notification that warns players that an invader is about to enter the arena. The caption reads, “When you’re already dead inside but the game tells you an invader is incoming.”
The “Drifter’s Crazy Face” Meme
In this meme, players take a screenshot of the Drifter’s animated face during the Gambit game mode. The captions range from “When you’re about to lose but your team finally banks enough motes” to “When you see your teammate get killed by the boss for the third time.”
The “I Don’t Always Play Gambit, But When I Do…” Meme
This meme is based on the popular “I don’t always…” meme format. Players fill in the blank with their own humorous take on the Gambit game mode. For example, “I don’t always play Gambit, but when I do, I always forget to bank my motes.”
What Do Players Think About Gambit Memes?
Destiny 2 players have mixed feelings about Gambit memes. Some love them and see them as a way to connect with the community and blow off steam. Others find them repetitive or annoying, and wish that players would focus more on playing the game than making jokes about it.
One player, who goes by the username “GambitQueen,” says, “I love Gambit memes! They’re hilarious and they make playing Gambit even more fun. It’s great to see the community come together and make jokes about the game mode we all love.”
But another player, who goes by the username “GambitHater,” says, “I’m so sick of Gambit memes. They’re everywhere, and they’re not even that funny. I wish players would stop making them and just play the game.”
The Future of Gambit Memes
As long as Gambit remains a popular game mode in Destiny 2, it’s likely that Gambit memes will continue to flourish. Players will continue to find new and creative ways to poke fun at the game mode, and to bond over their shared experiences. Whether you love them or hate them, Gambit memes are here to stay.
So the next time you’re playing Gambit, take a moment to enjoy the humor and camaraderie that Gambit memes bring to the game. And who knows? You might even come up with a few Gambit memes of your own.
