The Walking Dead has been one of the most popular TV shows of all time, with millions of viewers tuning in every week to see the latest developments in the zombie apocalypse. But one character, in particular, has captured the hearts of fans around the world: Daryl Dixon. Played by Norman Reedus, Daryl has become one of the most beloved characters on the show, and his catchphrase “If Daryl dies, we riot” has become an unforgettable meme.
The Origins of the Meme
The “If Daryl dies, we riot” meme first appeared in 2012, during the show’s third season. At the time, there was speculation that Daryl might be killed off, which sparked a wave of panic among fans. To express their love for the character and their fear of losing him, fans began creating memes with the now-famous catchphrase.
The meme quickly went viral, spreading across social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. It became a rallying cry for fans of the show, a way to express their devotion to Daryl and their determination to keep him alive.
The Impact of the Meme
The “If Daryl dies, we riot” meme had a profound impact on the Walking Dead fandom. It brought fans together, creating a sense of community and shared purpose. It also helped to elevate Daryl to new heights of popularity, making him one of the most iconic characters in the history of the show.
But the meme also had a darker side. Some fans became so obsessed with keeping Daryl alive that they started sending death threats to the show’s writers and producers. Others began harassing actors who played characters who they thought might pose a threat to Daryl’s safety.
The Legacy of the Meme
Today, the “If Daryl dies, we riot” meme is still going strong. Although the show has undergone significant changes over the years, with many beloved characters coming and going, Daryl remains a constant presence, and fans continue to rally around him.
