The Omar Comin meme was one of the most popular memes of the early 2000s. It originated from the HBO series, The Wire, which aired from 2002 to 2008. The character Omar Little, played by Michael K. Williams, was known for his iconic line, “Omar comin’!” as he entered scenes to rob drug dealers.
The Omar Comin meme became popular in 2007 when a user on the website Something Awful photoshopped Omar onto a picture of a cat jumping out of a box. The image went viral, and soon people were photoshopping Omar into all sorts of situations.
The Height of the Omar Comin Meme
At the height of the Omar Comin meme’s popularity, it could be found on almost every social media platform. People were creating memes of Omar in all sorts of situations, from taking over the White House to stealing the Declaration of Independence. The meme became so popular that Michael K. Williams himself even referenced it in an interview.
“It’s a strange thing when you become a meme,” Williams said. “But I’m happy that people are enjoying the character and the show.”
The Fall of the Omar Comin Meme
As with all memes, the Omar Comin meme eventually lost its popularity. By 2010, it was no longer as prevalent on social media, and by 2015, it had all but disappeared. However, the meme did leave a lasting impact on internet culture.
People’s Response to Omar Comin Meme
Many people who were around during the height of the Omar Comin meme have fond memories of it. They remember spending hours scrolling through social media, looking for the latest Omar meme. Some even credit the meme with introducing them to The Wire, which has since become a cult classic.
Others, however, feel that the Omar Comin meme was overrated. They argue that there were other, better memes during the same time period that deserved more attention. They also point out that the meme was often used inappropriately, with people using it to make light of serious situations.
The Legacy of the Omar Comin Meme
Despite its fall from popularity, the Omar Comin meme still has a lasting legacy. It paved the way for other memes to follow and helped to establish The Wire as one of the most influential television shows of all time. It also serves as a reminder of the power of the internet to create and spread cultural phenomena.
While the Omar Comin meme may never reach the same level of popularity it once had, it will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who remember it fondly.
