In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the origins of these memes, their significance in Mexican culture, and their lasting legacy in the world of online humor.

The Origins of the Cochiloco and Benny Memes

The Cochiloco and Benny memes first started to gain popularity in 2011, shortly after the release of “El Infierno,” a gritty crime drama about the drug trade in Mexico. The movie, directed by Luis Estrada and starring Damián Alcázar as the main character, quickly became a critical and commercial success, earning praise for its gripping storyline and powerful performances.

However, it was the supporting characters of Cochiloco and Benny that truly captured the hearts of audiences. Played by Joaquín Cosio and Jorge Zárate, respectively, these two characters were the comic relief in an otherwise serious film, providing a much-needed dose of humor and levity. It wasn’t long before fans of the movie started creating memes featuring their favorite moments from the film, often centered around the antics of Cochiloco and Benny.

By turning these characters into objects of humor and satire, people are able to reclaim a sense of agency and control over a situation that often feels overwhelming and hopeless.
