One such trend that has taken the internet by storm recently is the “They came for me” meme. This meme has spread like wildfire across social media platforms, and everyone seems to be talking about it.

What is the “They Came for Me” Meme?

The “They came for me” meme is a humorous take on the popular saying “First, they came for…” The original saying is a famous quote attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller, a German theologian and Lutheran pastor who opposed the Nazi regime. The quote goes like this:

“First, they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.”

The meme takes this quote and adds a humorous twist to it. The format of the meme is simple: it begins with “First, they came for…” followed by a humorous statement that is usually related to pop culture or current events. The meme ends with “Then they came for me, and there was no one left to…” followed by another humorous statement that is a play on words with the previous one.
