suprised

Back in the early 2020s, a meme featuring actor Tom Holland went viral. It depicted him with a shocked expression, hands covering his mouth, and the caption “Surprised Tom” or “Tom Holland’s reaction when…” The meme took off on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram, inspiring countless variations and spin-offs.

The meme’s popularity only grew when Holland himself acknowledged it, even sharing a few of his favorite versions. Fans loved seeing their favorite actor participating in the meme culture and it only further fueled its popularity.

The Golden Age of Surprised Tom Memes

For a time, it seemed like there was no end to the creativity and humor that could be mined from the Surprised Tom meme. People used the template to comment on everything from current events to pop culture to their personal lives.

One popular version of the meme featured Holland’s Spider-Man character reacting to various situations, such as Thanos snapping his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War or getting turned to dust in Avengers: Endgame.

Another trend was to pair the Surprised Tom template with other memes, such as the “Ight, Imma head out” Spongebob meme or the “Change My Mind” meme featuring conservative commentator Steven Crowder.

The Decline of Surprised Tom Memes

As with all memes, the Surprised Tom trend eventually began to wane. People moved on to newer and fresher memes, leaving Tom’s shocked face behind.
