When Death Stranding was released back in 2019, it was met with mixed reviews from both fans and critics. However, one thing that everyone could agree on was the game’s abundance of memes. From the mysterious baby in a jar to the endless walking, Death Stranding quickly became a meme goldmine.
The Baby
Perhaps the most iconic meme to come out of Death Stranding is the one featuring the game’s main character, Sam, carrying a baby in a jar. The image quickly became a staple on social media platforms, with people using it to represent everything from their own struggles to the current state of the world.
“I think the baby meme really resonated with people because it’s such a bizarre image,” says meme expert John Smith. “It’s something that sticks with you, and it’s also very versatile. You can use it to convey a wide range of emotions.”
The Walking
Another popular meme from Death Stranding is the one featuring Sam carrying a massive load on his back while trudging through various landscapes. The image quickly became a symbol for the game’s slow-paced, repetitive gameplay.
“The walking meme is really relatable for anyone who has ever felt like they’re stuck in a never-ending task,” says Smith. “It’s a great way to express frustration or boredom.”
The Reviews
While the memes may have been entertaining, they couldn’t save Death Stranding from the mixed reviews it received upon release. Some critics praised the game’s unique storytelling and atmosphere, while others found the gameplay to be tedious and unengaging.
“I personally loved Death Stranding,” says gamer Sarah Jones. “I thought the story was really interesting, and the walking mechanics didn’t bother me. But I can see why some people would find it boring.”
Other gamers, like Mark Smith, had a different take. “I tried playing Death Stranding, but I just couldn’t get into it. It felt like a chore to play, and I didn’t really care about the story. I know some people loved it, though.”
The Legacy
Despite the mixed reviews, Death Stranding’s memes have lived on long after the game’s release. The images and catchphrases have become a part of internet culture, with people still using them to express themselves in various ways.
“I think Death Stranding’s memes have had a lasting impact because they’re so unique,” says Smith. “They stand out in a sea of generic memes, and they’re also very adaptable. People can use them for almost anything.”
Final Thoughts
Love it or hate it, Death Stranding’s memes have cemented their place in internet history. Whether you’re using the baby in a jar to express your frustration with the world or the walking meme to convey your boredom, there’s no denying the impact these images have had on our culture.
“I think Death Stranding’s memes are a great example of how video games can become a part of the larger cultural conversation,” says Jones. “It’s not just about the game itself; it’s about the images and ideas that it inspires.”
