It’s hard to believe that it’s already been four years since the Sleepytime Tea meme first surfaced on the internet. For those who missed it, the meme featured a picture of a cup of Sleepytime Tea with a caption that read “Drinking Sleepytime Tea like a boss.” The meme quickly went viral, with users creating their own variations and sharing them across social media platforms.
But like all internet phenomena, the Sleepytime Tea meme eventually faded away. So what happened? Let’s take a closer look at the rise and fall of one of the internet’s most beloved memes.
The Origins of the Sleepytime Tea Meme
The Sleepytime Tea meme first appeared on Reddit in 2019. A user posted a picture of their cup of Sleepytime Tea with the caption “Drinking Sleepytime Tea like a boss.” The post quickly gained traction, with other users sharing their own versions of the meme.
What made the Sleepytime Tea meme so popular? For one, it was relatable. Who hasn’t had a cup of tea or coffee to help them power through a long day? Additionally, the “like a boss” catchphrase was already popular at the time, thanks to the success of the Lonely Island song of the same name.
The Memes Take Over
As the Sleepytime Tea meme gained steam, it started to take on a life of its own. Users created their own versions of the meme, featuring everything from cats to superheroes. The meme even spawned its own subreddit, where users could share and discuss their favorite variations.
Some of the most popular Sleepytime Tea memes included a picture of a cat with the caption “Drinking Sleepytime Tea like a boss,” and a picture of Batman holding a cup of tea with the caption “I am the knight…who drinks Sleepytime Tea like a boss.”
The Fall of the Sleepytime Tea Meme
Like all memes, the Sleepytime Tea craze eventually died down. By the end of 2019, the meme had lost much of its popularity. But why did the meme fade away?
One theory is that the meme simply ran its course. Like all internet trends, the Sleepytime Tea meme was bound to lose its appeal eventually. Another theory is that the meme was simply too niche. While many people enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, not everyone has heard of Sleepytime Tea.
Responses and Comments from Fans
Despite its decline in popularity, the Sleepytime Tea meme still has its fans. Some users on Reddit and Twitter continue to share their favorite versions of the meme, while others reminisce about the good old days when the meme was at its peak.
“I still love the Sleepytime Tea meme,” says Reddit user u/tealover99. “It always brings a smile to my face when I see it pop up on my feed.”
Others, however, are ready to move on. “I think it’s time to retire the Sleepytime Tea meme,” says Twitter user @memequeen23. “It was fun while it lasted, but it’s time to make way for new memes.”
Final Thoughts
While the Sleepytime Tea meme may no longer be at the forefront of internet culture, its legacy lives on. It’s a reminder of a simpler time, when memes were just starting to take over the internet and anything was possible.
Who knows? Maybe someday the Sleepytime Tea meme will make a comeback. Until then, we’ll just have to settle for the memories.
