What is the Sinkhole de Mayo Meme?

The Sinkhole de Mayo meme is a play on words that combines the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo with the concept of sinkholes. It all started when a Twitter user named @ElSaxo tweeted a picture of a sinkhole, captioned “Sinkhole de Mayo, or as they say in Mexico, El Sinko de Mayo.” The tweet went viral, and soon people were sharing their own versions of the joke, using pictures of sinkholes and adding their own puns.

Since then, the Sinkhole de Mayo meme has taken on a life of its own. People have created memes featuring everything from giant sinkholes to miniature ones, and the jokes have become increasingly elaborate and absurd. Some of the best Sinkhole de Mayo memes feature famous landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty, with giant sinkholes in front of them.
