From their hilarious antics to their heartwarming friendship, Shrek and Donkey have become beloved characters in the world of pop culture. And perhaps the most enduring legacy of their partnership is the Shrek Donkey meme picture – a viral sensation that has spawned countless variations and parodies.
The Birth of a Meme
The origins of the Shrek Donkey meme picture can be traced back to a scene in the first Shrek movie, where Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy) gleefully exclaims, “Pick me! Pick me!” as Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) chooses him as his traveling companion. The moment is a brief but memorable one, showcasing the chemistry between the two characters.
However, it wasn’t until years later that the scene would become a meme. In 2012, a Reddit user posted a still image of Donkey with the caption, “Shrek says he’s looking for a noble steed. I told him I was the noblest of all.” The post quickly gained traction and was shared across social media platforms.
