It’s been three years since the Mac Selena meme first appeared on social media, but the trend shows no signs of slowing down. For those who are unfamiliar with the meme, it features a photo of Selena Gomez holding a McDonald’s bag and sporting a silly grin.
The meme first gained traction on Twitter, where users began using it to express their excitement about getting fast food. From there, it spread to other platforms like Instagram and TikTok, where people started using the meme to make fun of themselves for indulging in junk food.
The Birth of the Mac Selena Meme
The origins of the Mac Selena meme are somewhat murky, but most people attribute its creation to a Twitter user named @yungskrrt. In 2020, @yungskrrt posted the now-famous photo of Selena holding a McDonald’s bag with the caption “When the Uber Eats driver finally arrives with your McDonald’s order.”
The tweet quickly went viral, with thousands of people sharing it and adding their own captions. Soon, the Mac Selena meme was all over social media, with people using the photo to express all sorts of emotions.
The Impact of the Mac Selena Meme
The Mac Selena meme has had a profound impact on internet culture over the past three years. It has become a ubiquitous part of online discourse, with people using it to express everything from excitement to disappointment.
But the meme has also sparked conversations about body shaming and the pressures that celebrities face to maintain a perfect image. Selena herself has spoken out about the meme, saying that it makes her feel “humiliated” and that she wishes people would stop using it.
The Future of the Mac Selena Meme
Despite Selena’s objections, it seems unlikely that the Mac Selena meme will disappear anytime soon. In fact, it’s possible that it will continue to evolve and take on new meanings as time goes on.
Some people have already started using the meme to make fun of other celebrities, like Kim Kardashian and Beyonce. Others have used it to express frustration with quarantine weight gain or the struggles of trying to eat healthily.
