In 2021, the internet was taken by storm with a meme featuring WWE wrestler Roman Reigns. The image showed Reigns with an intense look on his face, with the caption “Believe That” written in bold letters. The meme quickly went viral, with people using it to express confidence in everything from sports teams to political candidates. But where did this meme come from, and why did it become so popular?

The Origins of the Meme
The “Believe That” meme originated from a promo that Reigns cut on an episode of WWE Smackdown in 2021. In the promo, Reigns declared that he was the “Tribal Chief” of the WWE, and that everyone else in the company was beneath him. He ended the promo with the now-famous line, “I’m not a bad guy, I’m not a good guy, I’m THE guy. Believe that.”
The line quickly caught on with WWE fans, who began using it in their own social media posts and online discussions. But it wasn’t until someone paired the line with a photo of Reigns looking particularly intense that the meme really took off.
The Popularity of the Meme
Once the “Believe That” meme started to gain traction, it spread like wildfire across the internet. People began using it to express confidence in everything from their favorite sports teams to their political beliefs. The meme even made its way into mainstream media, with news outlets and late-night talk show hosts referencing it in their coverage.
Part of the reason for the meme’s popularity is that it taps into a universal desire for confidence and self-assurance. By using the “Believe That” line, people are able to assert their own beliefs and convictions in a bold and assertive way.
The Response to the Meme
While many people found the “Believe That” meme to be funny and empowering, others criticized it for promoting a toxic form of masculinity. Some argued that the meme reinforced the idea that strength and dominance were the most important qualities a person could possess, and that this could be harmful to people who didn’t fit into traditional gender roles.
Despite these criticisms, the “Believe That” meme continues to be popular today. It’s a testament to the power of the internet to take a small moment from a wrestling promo and turn it into a cultural phenomenon.
The Legacy of the Meme
As with any viral sensation, it’s hard to predict what the lasting impact of the “Believe That” meme will be. It’s possible that it will fade away as quickly as it appeared, or it could become a lasting part of internet culture.
Regardless of its future, the “Believe That” meme has already left its mark on the world. It’s a reminder that even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty, people are always looking for ways to express themselves and assert their own beliefs. And sometimes, a simple meme can be the perfect way to do just that.
