In 2023, memes have become an integral part of our digital culture. One of the most popular memes that still circulates today is the “girl on roller coaster” meme. This meme features a photo of a young girl with a terrified expression on her face while riding a roller coaster.

The Origin of the Meme

The “girl on roller coaster” meme first appeared on the internet in 2014 after a Reddit user posted the photo with the caption “Guess who was front row on the world’s tallest roller coaster?” The photo quickly went viral, and the girl’s expression became a meme used to express fear or anxiety in various situations.

The girl in the photo remains anonymous, but her expression has become iconic. Many people have speculated about what caused her to make such a terrified face. Some have suggested that it was simply the thrill of the ride, while others have speculated that something else happened to cause her distress.

The Internet Reacts

As with any viral meme, people on the internet had a lot to say about the “girl on roller coaster” meme. Some found the photo hilarious, while others thought it was mean to make fun of a young girl’s fear.

One Reddit user commented, “I feel bad for laughing, but this photo is just too funny.” Another user responded, “I don’t think it’s funny at all. This poor girl was clearly terrified, and now the whole internet is making fun of her.”

The Girl Speaks Out

In 2019, the girl in the photo finally spoke out about her experience. Her name is Jordan Alexander, and she was 12 years old at the time the photo was taken. In an interview with The Guardian, she said, “I was really scared on the ride, and I didn’t know there was a camera. When I saw the photo later, I was really embarrassed.”

Jordan went on to say that she didn’t mind that the photo became a meme, but she wished people would remember that she was just a scared kid at the time. “I don’t want people to forget that I’m a real person with real feelings,” she said.

The Legacy of the Meme

Despite the controversy surrounding the “girl on roller coaster” meme, it remains a popular meme to this day. It has been used to express fear or anxiety in a variety of situations, from politics to pop culture.

Some people have even taken the meme to the next level, creating their own versions with different photos or captions. One popular variation is the “boy on roller coaster” meme, which features a boy with a similar expression on his face.

Final Thoughts

The “girl on roller coaster” meme may have started as a simple photo, but it has become a cultural phenomenon. While some people still find it funny, it’s important to remember that there is a real person behind the meme. Jordan Alexander was just a scared kid on a roller coaster, and she deserves to be treated with respect.

As we continue to use memes to express ourselves on the internet, it’s important to remember that there are real people behind the images we share. Let’s continue to be kind to one another and use humor in a way that brings us together, rather than tearing us apart.
