The Rise of Reaction Memes
Reaction memes have been around for a while, but they really exploded in popularity in the early 2020s. This was due in part to the rise of social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, which made it easy for people to share and create memes. It was also a time when people were spending more time online due to the pandemic, and memes provided a much-needed source of humor and entertainment.
As reaction memes became more popular, they began to evolve and take on different forms. Some memes feature celebrities or fictional characters, while others use animals or even inanimate objects. The key to a good reaction meme is the facial expression or body language of the subject – it has to be exaggerated and over-the-top to really work.

Why Reaction Memes are Funny
So why are reaction memes so funny? There are a few different reasons:
They’re relatable
Many reaction memes feature people or animals reacting to common situations that we’ve all experienced. Whether it’s feeling overwhelmed at work or getting distracted by something shiny, these memes tap into our shared experiences and make us laugh.
They’re absurd
Many reaction memes take a common situation and exaggerate it to the point of absurdity. This creates a sense of humor that is both surreal and relatable – we can recognize the situation, but the way it’s presented is so over-the-top that it becomes funny.
They’re easy to create
One of the reasons that reaction memes have become so popular is that they’re easy to create. Anyone with a basic understanding of image editing software can create a reaction meme using a stock photo or GIF. This has led to a proliferation of memes and a democratization of internet humor.
