Back in 2019, a Facebook event was created with the aim of storming Area 51, a highly classified United States Air Force facility located in Nevada. The event quickly went viral, attracting the attention of millions of people who were interested in uncovering the secrets of the government facility. The event was scheduled for September 20, 2019, and while it didn’t lead to any actual storming of Area 51, it did give birth to one of the most successful memes in internet history.

The Birth of the Area 51 Meme

The Area 51 meme started when someone posted a picture of a Naruto runner, a fictional character from the anime series Naruto, running towards the gates of Area 51. The caption read “They can’t stop us all”, and the image quickly went viral. Within days, the internet was flooded with memes about the event, with people creating their own versions of the Naruto runner, as well as other funny and creative memes related to Area 51.

The Fallout of the Area 51 Meme

While the Area 51 meme was a huge success, it also had its drawbacks. The event had attracted the attention of the government, who were concerned about the potential security risks that could arise from a large group of people trying to storm a highly classified facility. The government issued warnings to people not to attempt to enter the facility, and they even went so far as to increase security at Area 51.

Despite the warnings, some people did attempt to enter the facility, but they were quickly stopped by security forces. The fallout from the event was minimal, with only a few people being arrested for trespassing. However, it did serve as a reminder of the potential dangers of using the internet to organize large-scale events.
