pears

Back in 2021, a seemingly innocuous tweet about conference pears sparked a meme that took the internet by storm. The tweet, which featured a picture of a conference pear with the caption “when you remember conference calls exist,” went viral, spawning countless variations and parodies.

For those who may not be familiar, conference pears are a type of pear that are commonly found in the UK and Europe. They are often small and unassuming, with a greenish-yellow skin and a sweet, juicy flesh.

The Birth of the Meme

As with many internet memes, the origins of the conference pears meme are somewhat hazy. Some attribute it to the aforementioned tweet, while others point to a similar post on Reddit or Instagram. Regardless of its origins, the meme quickly spread across social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.

People began creating their own versions of the meme, using conference pears to represent all sorts of things. Some used them as a metaphor for the monotony of office work, while others used them to poke fun at the absurdity of internet culture.

The Height of the Meme

At its peak, the conference pears meme was everywhere. It seemed like every day there was a new iteration of the meme, each one more absurd and hilarious than the last.

One popular version of the meme featured two conference pears sitting on a table, with one pear saying to the other “I’m not like other pears, I’m a conference pear.” This line became a catchphrase of sorts, with people using it to describe themselves or others who were a bit different from the norm.

Another popular version of the meme featured conference pears in various scenarios, such as playing video games or going on a road trip. These memes often played off of common stereotypes or tropes, such as the “gamer girl” or the “road trip playlist.”

The Fall of the Meme

As with all internet memes, the conference pears meme eventually began to fade away. People moved on to other things, and the meme slowly but surely lost its relevance.

However, there are still those who remember the conference pears meme fondly. Some even argue that it was one of the best memes of all time, thanks to its simplicity and versatility.
